He is the Chairman of Sakal Papers Limited. An engineer from the prestigious BITS, Pilani, he is an industrialist and a man with a vision. Since 1985, when he came on the Board of Sakal, the newspaper has grown leaps and bounds under his able leadership. Having a presence in entire Maharashtra and Goa, Sakal is now not restricted to being a ‘newspaper’ but is a ‘brand’ in itself.
Shri Pawar has also been the former President of The Mahratta Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture, Pune, the first President of the Federation of Chambers and Associations all over Maharashtra, President of The Indian Newspaper Society, New Delhi, President, Indian Language Newspapers Association and the World Association of Newspapers (WAN).
He is also the Chairman of Ajay Metachem Group of Industries and Director on the Boards of various listed companies like Bharat Forge Ltd, Kirloskar Oil Engines Ltd, Finolex Cables Ltd and Force Motors Ltd. He is also on the Board of the Pan Gulf Group Limited, UK.
Shri Pawar has contributed immensely to the society as well. He is a trustee on a number of socio-educational institutions in Pune and takes an active part in the development of these organizations/trusts. Some of them are Dr. Nanasaheb Parulekar, Sakal Charity Trust, Students Welfare Association, Poona School and Home for Blind, Kirloskar Foundation, Balgram – SOS Children’s village, Yerwada, Pune Balkalyan Sanstha, Sakal India Foundation, BAIF Development Research Foundation, Niradhar, etc.
He is the Managing Director of Sakal Group, printer & publisher of Sakal Newspapers, Agrowon and Gomantakand printer, publisher & Managing Editor of Sakal Times.
He has been an Executive Committee Member of Mahratta Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture (MCCIA) and a member of the global YPO (Young Presidents’ Organization).
The young scion of this media monolith is eminently qualified in engineering and has been responsible for various turnkey projects in the areas of technology and electronic media. He, as a Director on the Board, has focused on modernization of the newspaper house and implementing best practices of the industry. This has seen him bring in a developmental change in the areas of content, business process and technology. His understanding of the international environment is being leveraged successfully to enable Sakal to deliver the state of Maharashtra to audiences across the world.
Vikash is an accomplished industry leader with an experience of over 13 years in the areas of Business Operations, Strategy, Planning and Process Transformation in the Investment Banking industry.
Vikash holds an MBA degree from University of Chicago, Booth School of Business and an undergraduate degree from University of Allahabad. Prior to joining APG, Vikash headed Operations Planning of the Asia Pacific region at Goldman Sachs in real estate division. He has also worked with Morgan Stanley and Reliance Industries prior to his last stint with Goldman Sachs.
An avid outdoor sports enthusiast, Vikash is a Sailor, Marathoner and has been an endurance runner and a winner of the Oxfam 100KMS race in 2013.
She has about twenty years of work experience and has spent 18 years in higher education. Currently the Chief Operating Officer at Sakal Media Group and heading Sakal Interdisciplinary International Learning Centre that is working on creating skilled Human Capital in various developmental sectors. She is also a Promoter Trustee of MERC Institute of Management. She holds a Bachelors in Mathematics, is an Alumnus of IIM Ahmedabad and Ph.D.(Business Management). She was the Director of Sinhgad Institute of Management and Computer Applications for about 9 years. She is former President – AIMS, Chairperson of a National level test ‘ATMA’, President, Consortium of Management Education (COME), served as Member Senate-University of Pune. She has worked on Board of Studies, Pune University for three consecutive terms.
She has served as an executive member to international accreditation body ACBSP (Accreditation Council for Business Schools Programs) and AACSB (which has 716 B-schools in 48 countries), AMDISA (Association of B-schools from SAARC Countries), AICTE and AIMA.
Dr. Palkar has more than 25 research publications to her credit and served as the editor of “Samudanta-Journal for Managers”, International Journal for Business.
She has spearheaded work with UN ECOSOC Council that led to the first Procurement Workshop being conducted in India. She was a part of the International Federation of Agriculture Development (IFAD), Rome for economic development of the state of Meghalaya.
She has worked on policy matters on education and has led the movement at state level on autonomy for higher education. She has also worked as Competent Authority for state level and national level tests.
